DualLink MiniPort Adaptor - Does it still suck?

I just bought a 30 inch dell, and was planning on getting a macbook.

Can anybody confirm if I will be greatly disappointed if I'm planning on the macbook powering this display?

The firmware update was supposed to help a bit, but engadget had an article saying they were still having intermittent issues.
