I got a 2007 white MacBook, and I only have about 4GB HD space left. And that's after I did some emergency clearing out. It's obvious I need a new one, or to clear out more. I'm thinking both.

So, I just got the free version of CleanMyMac, is that a good program to clear my HD out with?

And, if I only want a drive that's 200GB-300GB, how much will a reliable one run me? I've seen 1TB drives for £70, but I'm not sure if they're the right size for the MB.

If I do get a new HD, I can install Snow Leopard from an upgrade disc (they're the same as a normal one, aren't they?) then restore everything from a Time Machine backup just fine, right?

One more thing, how do I go about installing a new HD? I remember reading it was pretty much the same method as installing new RAM, so it should be fairly simple, right? I've upgraded the RAM in this MB before, so I know the process.

Thanks in advance!

320GB seems to go for around 35£, 500GB for ~45£, 640GB for ~70£ and 750GB for ~100£. I recommend WD Scorpio Blue.

Yes, you can install OS X from the upgrade disc and restore from a TM backup.

Thanks, and what's a good UK site to buy it from? Amazon seems slightly overpriced, but Overclockers is looking OK.

Here’s What You Need
- A 2.5” SATA drive
- Small Philips screwdriver
- T6 Torx screwdriver, I think; a pair of pliers might work too (removing HDD mounting screws)
- You might want to pick up a cheap hard drive enclosure (SATA to USB)

Here’s Some Instructions
- Search YouTube for a video on how to upgrade the HDD- it’s very simple
- Put the old HDD in an external enclosure
- Put in your Snow Leopard disk and then format your new drive
- Install Snow Leopard
- Plug in old HDD (inide the external enclosure)
- ‘Migrate’ everything from the old drive to the new one using Migration Assistant
- Spend 20 minutes or so downloading and installing updates (migration doesn’t include system updates)

Here’s Some Notes
- Installing a new hard drive is very simple, I did it in 10 minutes
- This will only void the warranty of the original drive, unless you break something while upgrading
