Duet+ Pod HD input gain..

hey, I have the gain input level set to like zero and the result is the signal is actually full, going up on the input gain level results in clipping

Im using pod direct, what should I set the Apogee to, instrument input? XLR mic, XLR +4 ,-10?

anyways how should this be setup, both physically and in Maestro, thank you
