Ok, I know this may sound dumb, but if I copy an m4v file from one location to the other, is there any loss in file quality vs moving the file from one location to the other. In this example, I'm moving all my movies from one external HD to another, and I was wondering if copying the files vs moving them mattered.

No loss. This is just a regular file copy, just like copying a word document from one location to the other. After you move or copy, is the exact same data in both existences.
