Dumb question alert? re: AW using LTE vs UTMS (CDMA cell carriers)

Does the AW S3 LTE in particular do better when the owner is on an LTE-based Cellular Carrier plan (AT&T/TM) vs. UTMS (CDMA/Verizon/Sprint)?

Totally ignorant on this when read an Website article recently--to paraphrase-- that the AW naturally worked on LTE but would "try" to work when only UTMS was available.

And looking at another post from Sept, I may have totally misunderstood what carriers are UTMS--so apologies--I can't edit the title of the post, apparently.

I'm hoping the more tech-educated can help me understand if there is anything to this position.

Slight correction, it is called UMTS and in the USA, it is only supported by GSM based carriers AT&T and T-Mobile. No support on Verizon or Sprint.

UMTS is basically a version of 3G (Slow) while LTE is based on the 4G network (Faster). Here in the USA the 2 GSM Carriers offer UMTS as a fallback (slower option) than high density LTE areas.

Note: GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications) is a standard set developed by the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) to describe technologies for second generation (2G) digital cellular networks.
