Duplicate Photos in iPhoto after import....

Crashed computer, backed up all my photos onto a hard drive.

Reinstalled Tiger and iLife 06 from version 04 (upgrade). Imported my photos into newer version of iPhoto - everything is duplicated.

Anyone know why?
Do I have to manually go through the whole lot and delete the duplicates?

Please help!!!!!

are the resolutions on the duplicates the same? maybe it imported all of the thumbnails too

YES they are all the same size and resolution!!

Did you make sure to check the option not to duplicate the photos in the preferences?

No did not select 'duplicate' option in preferences. SO should I delete all and reimport???? What should be the correct process for importing from an external hardrive?

Or you could try iPhoto Diet to delete the dupes.
