I am trying to clean up almost full drive of my MacBook Pro and found that there is duplicate var folder (including sleepimage etc) and consumes over 15GB of disk space. One is located in /private/var and the other one in /var only. Is it necessary to have both? How to remove it?

/var is a symbolic link to /private/var, therefore it is not a duplicate and I would kindly suggest that you leave system directories alone.
