I am heading overseas for the next 12-14 months so ultimate portability and durability are essential! Hence less is more!

Here are some of the main criteria for my decision:

-I will be using it for my main computer for the next 14 months or so.

-SSD being more durable???

- I will be using it for internet, email and simple computing. Nothing heavy duty.

Thanks for any insight!

1. They will theoretically both work.
2. The SSD will be more durable, due to a lack of moving parts
3. The Air is a new revision product, recall the original air had hinge problems. It remains to be seen how these new airs will hold up over time.

an SSD is much less likely to fail, and it's a good idea if you're absentminded or clumsy and there's a good possibility of you dropping your computer or just treating it too roughly (from dropping your bag or something).

you can install your own SSD in an MBP, though, and you can upgrade it later on as SSD prices drop...that's why I'd go with a Pro over an Air. you can stick the stock hard drive in an enclosure and have an external drive for backup, too.

in your case, i would go air. the SSD is much more durable than an HDD and portability is better with the air
