Hello,

I'm going to be getting my first iPhone 4 very soon, and would like help picking a case.

I've read reviews on this forum and other sites, and the consensus seems to be if you want ultimate protection then you need to get the Otterbox Defender case.

However, I really don't want a bulky case. I would like to carry my iPhone in my pocket. Can I get anywhere close to the durability of the Otterbox, with more portability?

Thanks.

Its not that bulky, I have the Otterbox defender and easily carry my iphone in my pocket. Its the best case I've ever bought.

The Otterbox commuter?
There's got to be some trade offs..
If you want it to be less bulky, yet be protective, the Commuter will be your best bet. :(

id go with the commuter....offers excellent protection without the massive bulk that the defender adds.
+1. I had the commuter with my 3G and it was awesome. When I sold my phone to pay for my iP4 my wife wouldn't let me sell the case with it because she wanted it. She's using it now and it still looks new.

I don't have experience with the iP4 version but I heard when they were first released that they're a little loose. I'm not sure if that's been fixed or if it was true.

Honestly it isn't the bulk that got me on the Defender it was the silicone. Sticks to almost everything.

As other have said, the commuter is great. It is my go to everyday case. The Showcase is garbage with a really stupid latch that keeps the phone in the case. Not to mention it doesn't quite close all the way.

The Candyshell is good but it does scratch easily. Flaking of the rubber is not noticeable after a few days once the case starts to wear. The case lasts a while but it looks really bad after a few days of normal use.

+1, I'm using the CandyShell and even though protection was great, the finish is definitely bad because it scratches.
