I have seen many threads about this with regard to the Macbook Pro, but not so much with respect to the iPad and was wondering what the experience of people has been with the iPad Pro M4 in Space Black with respect to scratching/chipping and/or fingerprints. Is it the same coating as what is on the Macbooks with the same potential issues?

I like both the silver and black colors for different reasons and will likely be using a case, so I guess it isn't that big of a deal either way, as only the edges will be visible most of the time, but I am planning to keep this for a long time and was wondering what to expect if I were switching between a folio case and keyboard case regularly as well as around the USB-C port from daily charging. If I got space black would I have to baby it to keep it looking good or is it really a non-issue?

Thanks.

Have had mine for several months and no chips or scratches to report, even with one drop to the floor.

Previously I had a 12.9 IPP in space grey which had some discolouration on the back where the magnets were

Took the chance on space black and have had mine for about 6 months (bought second hand) and it travels in an Apple Smart Folio and in a sleeve in my purse when on the go. I’ve had no issues with space back

IMO the tandem oled screen is “softer” than most of the other iPad screens (XDR, plain LCD, etc) and is more prone to damage. I had a hairline scratch a few months ago - and then, after a wind issue, my screen cracked pretty significantly after falling directly on its face. I recommend AppleCare for it.

I am leaning towards repairing it (at $1K+!), getting AppleCare, and keeping for 5+ years. I have explored iPad Air 13”, etc, and it seems to get an equivalent iPad, I would need to pay at least $1K anyway…
