When IOS 15 and MacOS Monterey were released Apple described a feature that would automatically switch connection of your AirPods to whichever device is actively playing audio. I was highly anticipating this feature as I often work between my IPhone and MacBook and manually switching Bluetooth connection was getting repetitive and mundane. Since then the feature has hardly ever worked and I was wondering if anyone ever got the feature to work as intended. Annoyingly it seems to work one way: from MacBook to IPhone with IPhone always taking priority meaning if I already had my AirPods connected to my laptop and my phone plays any audio at all the IPhone just hijacks control over the AirPods.

I believe the feature actually had a name and was in the promotional material for IOS 15 and Monterey but when I look it up on Apple's website I don't see any mention of it at all. Am I crazy? Was this ever a thing?
