Discovered quite some dust under the lense hood of the zoom lens of my 17Pro. It is only visible under direct spotlight and a 2x magnification. Test pictures do not show any blurs or other disturbances. Otherwise the phone is perfect. Would you swap such a phone or keep it? My 14day return window closes on Friday (but I do have ACplus). Grateful for your thoughts on this.

I’d keep it. Such a minor complaint will likely have no future repercussions.

But if it really bothers you, just return it.

If test pictures show nothing is there even an issue?

Besides dust being in a place where it shouldn’t be… no. But there’s dust in my Canon zoom lenses too. So maybe dust in lenses is just normal.
But you’re right! Probably not an issue.

If it has bothered you enough to make a post about it maybe you should get one that doesn’t have dust that you can see!?

But you never know what you get, when you enter the swap lottery. The phone is otherwise fine… and you’re totally right: Since it doesn’t show up in pictures it‘s a non issue - and a widespread one, if you check the numerous posts on the web over generations of iPhones.

If it is still within the return window, EXCHANGE it. Simple as that, there should be no dust in there. If there is a "lottery" problem with the next one, exchange that too, but odds are the next one will be fine. Be glad you caught it now and not later, chances are there is more dust that you cannot see, possibly around the sensor due to environmental contamination during its assembly.

Definitely return it. In the meanwhile trying mildly pressing the middle of the screen to see if you have screengate. Which makes a clicking noise as it seems the screen seems to pop.

Personally, I’d probably keep it if that spec of dust is the only issue, you don’t want to get stuck in returns loop!
I think so too. Since the 3GS, I never had an IPhone without dust in the camera - and this time it is invisible the naked eye and only barely with a 2x magnification. And it doesn’t show on pictures. So I guess it is a non issue. As mentioned above: All of my Canon zoom lenses have dust.
You never know what you get if you enter the swap circus: scratches, bad screens, dented frames. There is no such thing as perfection in a mass produced product.

There is no such thing as perfection, if I look at anything for long enough I can find inconsistency’s. It’s what you’re willing to accept. I now try not to look super closely these days for my own sanity.

Based on this synopsis of your history with Apple products and cameras in general, why even bother creating this thread? You yourself knew that with your long history of having dust under lenses dating all the way back to the 3GS and being okay with it, that you would not be considering a return.

this is a dumb question. 1. its a forum 2. to hear others opinions and 3. get validation.

You’re right.
Okay, since a return/exchange is not an option, and you’ve had potentially 17 phones and cameras with dust inside them, I recommend you check out the Dyson vacuum and air filtration systems as a possible solution to this ongoing problem.
