I'm looking for a new video deck to capture DV and DVCAM footage in Final Cut Pro and iMovie. It just needs to be able to play & record to DV tape (DVCAM and MiniDV). Doesn't need to have RS-422 edit control or anything fancy like that.

A few years ago we had purchased a Sony DSR-11 that worked pretty well, but those are no longer made. The Sony HVR-M15AU looks like it would do the trick, but I don't want to get something that won't play nice over Firewire with FCP. Does anybody have an experience with this Sony deck? Or recommend a similar, low-end industrial grade VTR?

I've used a bunch of different HDV decks and all of them have acted the same w/FCP. If you didn't have to record to DVCAM I'd say just get a cheap DV camera for a few hundred bucks.

I can't go the cheap DV camera route, since this will be used in a public access TV facility edit room, lots of wear and tear and abuse. Need something somewhat rugged. We've blown through a lot of consumer JVC combination DV/VHS dual VCRs, and those things don't play nice over firewire with iMovie at all.
