Hi all...I've done a bit of searching for the last few years and seem to come up short. I have a few issues with my older macbook pro (mid 2010 2.4ghz 13.3) and I'm needing to nurse this computer for a little while before I can get a new one. Here is what I'm dealing with

1.) Battery issue...like many I have the dreaded x through my battery and its been this way for about 2 years now. The magsafe stays green all the time and the computer runs mostly normal, but despite smc, pram resets (many of them ) a new battery, new charging port and many other fixes, it won't go away. I'm fairly certain I have an issue with the temp sensor as well since even before my battery stopped charging, the fan would do strange things. So is there any possibility that the no charge battery x is caused by a bum thermal sensor? Or is my logic board just bad. I've dealt with it for 2 years, but it would be nice to be able to used the computer not plugged in if I could.

2.) The DVD drive just spins when there is a DVD in it...I'll admit, I rarely use it but occasionally it's nice to watch DVDs while traveling. Obviously not having a working battery really makes this even less useful, but I've probably used the DVD drive 10-15 times since I bought it in 2010. I'm guessing when my computer got dropped a while back and the screen cracked, something jarred loose in the drive and the laser isn't in alignment anymore. If I ever get the battery working, I will probably just replace the whole drive...

Thanks all, any help would be appreciated
