The new iBook looks great and I'm all set to buy one. However, I'm somewhat dissapointed that it doesn't include a SuperDrive.

The Apple Store sells the LaCie Firewire drive, which actually looks like a good value. Is the included software at all comparable to iDVD?

And speaking of iDVD, is there a hack for non-SuperDrives (like the LaCie)?

Essentially, if I purchase the iBook, what are my best bets for DVD burning and authoring?

Thanks (as always)!

iDVD will not burn to external drives.
I was in the market for PowerBook but I am now considering new iBook G4.
Since I would like to eventualy add DVD burining capability to my machine, I think that Toast 6 and external DVD burner would do the job.

iDVD will burn to external drives. it was one of the reasons they made iLife. people without built in superdrives were pirating iDVD, and then apple kinda got mad.

please correct me if i'm wrong.

I don't have iDVD but based on discussions on other forums and iDVD page from Apple, iDVD supports only internal SuperDrives. So, I think you are wrong.
