I have an iMac, May 2009. My problem is that I can't find an answer. Will the dvd drive burn higher capacity dvd than 4.7? I need to burn a dvd that requires at least a 4.77 dvd. Do I need to upgrade my dvd drive?
Thanks for any advice. I highly appreciate it !!!!

Supposing.....

you have a iMac introduced around April 2009, the answer is yes. Your iMac is equipped with a DL (dual layer) burner called "SuperDrive" and can burn a disc up to 8.5 GB. Have tu use DL discs for burn.

If you are using iDVD to burn, then go into iDVD's Project Menu>Project Info and you can choose to change the quality, which would probably work for your 4.77Gb project, or choose a dual layer disc.
