I am new to Mac and to dvd burning. I have Mac the Ripper and Burn, but I need something to compress the dvds before burning. Is there an open source alternative to dvd2one for Mac? Or is there another way to rip/compress/burn? Thanks.

You mention Mac the Ripper, but that's a program for ripping DVD content - not for creating DVDs.

On a Mac you can use iDVD, Toast, Popcorn, Compressor, Bit Vice, Sorenson Squeeze Suite, Cleaner and a few others for compressing/encoding. iDVD is a complete, consumer level DVD encoding, authoring and burning app included with the iLife applications.
