Any drive will work. Look into the Pioneer DVD burners. New they are around $30 so they are not really expensive.

I have an Apple 8x DVD-Rom that you could just have but I don't really think it's worth to ship from the states to CA.

The drive should be IDE, i.e. PATA (Parallel ATA). NOT SATA.

Look for a Super Multi Drive, which also has DVD-RAM (nicest DVD type), like from those from LG. You can even get them with LightScribe for cheap (there are apps like disclabel for that).

DVD Burner

I use http://otherworldcomputing.com for many of my replacement parts including the Optical Drive Double Density DVD Burner in my G5 tower. You can select your model from a menu and their site shows only those units compatible with it. I've found some things cheaper elsewhere, but otherworld's service has been unbeatable.
