On a bit of a budget, so can anyone recommend a good non-Apple DVD drive
to go with a rMBP.

Must be portable ( slimline & stylish :roll eyes: ) and not need an external power supply.

Many thanks :):apple:

They're mostly a commodity, LG, Samsung, ASUS they're all good. Just go with a name you recognize.

On a budget with the rMBP?

agreed if I was on a budget and really wanted a MBP I would of looked at 2011 used models that come with a superdrive

that said the apple one sells for $79.99, thats only about $30-40 more than any half decent competitors unit

There's nothing wrong with asking for an inexpensive dvd writer after spending a lot of money on the rMBP. In fact it makes no sense to pay 80 bucks for a usb optical drive that apple charges.
