Good morning,

STILL looking to make a decision for MB or MBP, and I have one more important element that hasn't been considered. Will I see a difference in the performance when encoding DVD between the two machines, or will the results not be distinct enough to matter (I expect the MBP to have slightly faster figures, but nothing to blow the MB out of the water...I hope)?

I don't think the difference will be that great, as long as they are both machines from the same CPU generation, e.g. Both CoreDuo or both Core2Duo

You probably wouldn't see much difference (if any) between a MacBook and MacBook Pro, especially since you would probably be comparing two machines with the same processor type and speed, and the same amount of RAM. Take into account as well that unless you're getting a 17 inch MBP, the top end MacBook and the low end MBP both have 6x burners, so literally, it would probably be the same.
