DVD +/i RW drive compatibility

Are all DVD Drives compatible with MacOS X and iDVD, I was thinking of putting my internal IDE drive from my PC into a USB 2.0 / Firewire enclosure to use with an ibook.

Also does DVD-RAM drive / media work with Mac OS.

OK, so there is an unoffical patch for iDVD to make it work with external recorders...

However

1) Is DVD+R/RW compatible with iDVD / MacOS 10.3.x without Roxio Toast?
2) Is DVD-RAM compatible MacOS 10.3.x without Roxio Toast?
3) Will IDE DVD-+/R/RW drive within a firewire / usb 2.0 casing work with Mac OS 10.3.x?
