So I'm looking to convert some DVDs to iPod videos.

Back when I had my iPod Video, I would use DVD Decrypter to take the DVD data and place it on my hard drive, then I'd convert the DVD data to an iPod format using Videora iPod Converter, and voila, done! (Took a long, long time)

Now that I have an iPod Touch, have things changed? Is this still the recommended pathway? Is the resolution output changed?

Thanks for the help! Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving holiday

HandBrake worked beautifully.

Only problem is my output was a .MKV file.

I thought it was supposed to produce a .MP4 or MPEG-4 file?

hmmm... look under the "preset" tab... select iPhone/iPod Touch

It should set everything to make a one pass h264 MP4 about 1 GB per two hour movie.

I import them to iTunes, then select which movies to sync to the iPhone.

ahh

got it

works now

for some odd reason, I swore I selected the preset last time but it produced a different result

but thanks for the help!

just absolutely lovin this device :)

I'm ripping my first handbrake movie right now. I look forward to the results. So, if you rip it for iphone/touch, will that same file work well for Apple TV or do you need to use the AppleTV setting to create a "better" copy?

I say you'll have to try then decide. I watch my iPhone rips on my 23" ACD in full screen mode... I see some posterization in darker scenes and some pixelization but it's just for me and good enough.

If I had Apple TV I might make a second rip just for compare of quality vs size.

Let us know what you think :)
