DVD Player / 23" Display / Horizontal Lines

I have a DP G5 (2.5GHz) and a 23" Cinema Display. Whenever I play DVDs using DVD Player there are these horizontal lines in the movie where the video doesn't match. How do I play dvds smoothly? I have a 9600 video card.
