DVD Player Is Slow & Pauses

Can anyone help me with this issue? I have some movies ripped to my Lacie
250 gb external hard drive using FW800. When I try to play a movie it plays very slow and even pauses. I have tried all of my movies with the same result.
I have repaired permissons and did a repair disk for the external drive and there were no errors. Until yesterday, I had no problems. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Is is possible that there is another program running in the background that is using processor time? You can check here for some other ideas.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have about 90% of my CPU idle. Power Mac G5 dual 2 ghz with 2.5 gb memory. I don't see anything hogging the CPU's. When I play a DVD disc everything works fine too.

Problem Solved

The issue was with my Pro Tools 002 rack. DVD player won't play correctly to my external HD while using this sound driver. Dang!
