I need to buy a DVD player (yes, DVD. Not HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, just regular ole' DVD). I'm getting my first HD TV soon (a 720p front projector... man it's gonna rock), so I am wondering if it's worth it to buy a up-converting DVD player? I'm a bit tight on money after getting that HD TV! Haha... so what'd you guys think?

And please suggest a player! I'm not sure where to begin,.

The one that I'm looking at is the Samsung DVD-1080P7 Up-Conversion DVD Player. I just got my first HDTV this past week so I'm planning on getting this tomorrow. Also, if/when you buy an HDMI cable, look on Amazon, I just picked on up for a few bucks including shipping.

Here's the HDMI cable that I bought:

I read some reviews on that model, and it seems lukewarm. The main complaint is that it couldn't play dual-layer DVD+R discs. Other than that, it does seem nice, and the price isn't bad.

It seems to have the best reviews of the up-converting DVD players that I've looked at (and in that price range). Plus, I don't really play burned DVDs, so that's not as much of a problem for me.

I too would appreciate getting other people's input on this since I'm in a similar position.

This one has pretty good reviews, it supports a multitude of formats, the main complaint with it is that it doesn't come with an HDMI cable. Although HDMI cables can be had pretty cheap now.
