DVD player (software) oddity

I have backed up a movie that will not play on the Mac laptops (13 in MacBook and 15 in MacBook Pro) but it will play on a iMac and a brand new Mac Mini. DVD Player will start and when it is pointed to the folder of the movie it just exits. Any suggestions?
