DVD player software?

Is there a free DVD software that supports 5.1 surround. I bought a DVD player for my PC and it only comes with Powerlink DVD software. They want me to pay $20 just listen to DVD's in 5.1 surround. Are all DVD software players similar? Any help would be appreciated.

I am not sure if iDVD has 5.1 but you can try it, it comes free with every mac. You can also try VLC (google vlc player) it crashes from time to time but its a really nice app.

Well iDVD isn't really suitable for what the OP is asking as it's a DVD editing/creation app.

VLC is a better option but I'm pretty sure that DVD Player - built in to OSX supports 5.1 surround.

As for a PC application, I'm unaware of any (besides VLC) DVD player software that is free.

I say splurge and get the right software for like $10. I don't think VLC is so great. It's fantastic for the price, but you pay for what you get.
