DVD problem

I made a slideshow of photos in imovie. Pics were 720x480. Exported as a QT movie 720x480 16:9 with bars to retain aspect ratio, and burned to loop on a DVD on iDVD. Problem is when I play it on a TV or computer the images appear stretched vertically and then pop down into the proper aspect ratio at about 30 seconds. Does anyone know what is going on and what I can do to prevent this from happening?
