I keep getting an error in my car, idk if it's because it's m4a and my cd player is too old (shouldn't be the case, it's from '01) or if it's because the dvd-r burns tighter rings which the cd player can't read. But the files are fine because they play on my computer and dvd player. Any ideas?

thanks in advanced.

That player from 2001 might not be able to even read data CDs or even data DVDs and especially .m4a files. Look into the manual of that player to either confirm it or not.

The .m4a format was introduced in 2001 or 2003, so that player will definitely be not able to "see" .m4a as a proper file. I also think, it will not read data DVDs.
