Simple question, is it common for the original MBPs (Core Duo models) to carry DVD-RAM capable drives? I check the system profiler on the iMac and it says it doesn't support DVD-RAM and the iMac is a year newer then the MBP
 
That's weird... because my drive supports -RAM

Odd too because yours is listed as DVD-RAM in the header, mine shows DVD-R.

Yours is also listed as up to 8x write speed when I look around whereas the MBP of that gen should only have the 4x SuperDrive. Was yours replaced with a newer drive at some point?
