I've just plugged a Pioneer DVR-112 in a USB2 enclosure into my iMac running Leopard, and popped in a disk in UDF format. To my joy, I can do precisely what I should be able to do with DVD-RAM - use the disk as if a hard drive, copying and deleting individual files.
However, if I try to reformat in Disk Utility by selecting the drive, then Erase with Volume Format=UDF, it sits there forever on "Creating partition map". Force Quit + reinsert and the UDF format option has disappeared entirely - though I can reformat as HFS successfully and, it seems, treat the DVD-RAM drive as a hard disk even using HFS.
Anyone experienced similar / know a working way of reformatting to UDF (other than "use a Linux/Windows box" ;-)?
Cheers.
