I thought DVD region lock was a thing of the past.
I bought my macbook pro about 3weeks ago. Today I tried to play a DVD and it says choose region! And I can only change it 5 times. grr.. this is so annoying. I travel often between NZ (region 4) and the US (region 1)... so I need to be able to swap between these regions multiple times.

Does anyone know how I can make my computer DVD "region free"?

Why should region locks be a thing of the past, even Blu Ray has region codes?

There are different release dates for optical media with video on it throughout the world and to prevent money loss due to that, region codes are the way to do that.

You could get an external region free DVD drive for your USB or Firewire ports or find a region free slot-loading DVD drive for replacing your region locked internal one.
