Hey there,

So I live in the UK and (most of the time) purchase Region 2 DVD's for playback on my Mac and DVD Player.

When I first got my Mac with Leopard, I remember having to set my Region (Either 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6) and remember that you could only change it 5 times. I have since upgraded to Snow Leopard, and through many re-installs, have never been asked again to select my DVD region.

Sometimes I do get Region 1 DVD's shipped from the States and for some reason, they still play fine in Apple's DVD Player, despite the fact it being set to Region 2 - UK.

So what's up with this? Not that I'm complaining, I'm just intrigued...

Sometimes region 1 disks are also (secretly) universal region disks that will play on any player

hunt for the universal region symbol on the packaging. usually such disks both have the region 1 and the universal region symbol

not sure about sl as i'm running leo, but it seems highly unlikely that they've eliminated the dvd region thingy on dvd player.. if they have, that's pretty awesome, i'm going to get my upgrade now :p

whatever it is, enjoy it before they discover the snafu
