DVD Ripper

I am trying to rip a region one dvd as my dvd drive is defaulted to region two. I have tried a couple of DVD rippers like handbrake & Mac The Ripper without much luck. Am I doing something wrong?

Handbrake should work fine.

Insert the DVD and after the "incorrect region" warning, open Handbrake and rip to .m4v or whatever format you're looking for.
