I need to extract the video/sound for several chapters on multiple DVDs, edit them, and burn them onto a single DVD.

I do not think the DVD's are protected - they are my property as I shot them about 18 months ago. However they were edited and produced profesionally.

I (will) have an iMac with Final Cut Pro. Never having used FCP before (or a Mac, for that matter!) I'm not sure what I'll need to complete this task!

Any help would be appreciated

There's a shareware app called DVDxDV (and its pro version) that'll rip sections of a DVD to QT, you can find in on http://www.versiontracker.com.

The easiest way to do this will be to throw the clips at iMovie, edit and chuck it at iDVD.

Whilst you won't have the same level of sophistication FCP affords, you won't have the learning curve either.
