I am getting an ipad this friday and i want to start ripping my dvds to watch on my iphone and ipad, i tried handbrake but it wouldnt work. what is a good software for doing this? i dont mind paying little bit for easier usabilty!
 
Handbrake is the best option and it will work. Use Mroogle to find a thread about how to use handbrake.

I've been using RipIt for about ten months and it's great. It has presets for Apple TV, iPad, iPod, iPhone etc...
