dvd shrink/any dvd/nero help

Ok, I just got my mac after a long time PC user and I want to rip and burn movies like I normaly do. I have searched for a while now and cant come up with a complete answer, so i want to strip the copy rights off a dvd, shrink it to fit a normal 4.7 gig disc and burn it to said disc. All my own back ups of course! I have found so many answers its hard to process. I am on 10.7.3 and want all compatible programs with that please. Thank you in advane for any help.

most every thing i find says MTR is great, but I cant find were it is Lion compatible?

Then get another ripping application, like Mac DVD Ripper Pro, which is recommended by the MTR team, or the ones listed in the second link.

I tried mac the ripper pro, I may be slow but i couldn't get it to rip and burn to a normal disc, the files where to large.

i use Handbrake to rip, needs VLC Player installed to remove the copyright of the movies your own and i use Burn to burn/copy

run handbrake pick your source (dvd drive) pick output and quality and hit start


burn is good if your doing direct dvd to dvd

thats why i said you need vlc to break the copyright

make sure you get the same bit version of vlc as your handbrake

if you got handbrake 64 bit get vlc player 64 bit

Download the 64-bit VLC version.

And maybe have a look at the links I gave you.
The first described, how to do what you want with available software, the second how to rip and compress the DVD, and the third how to automate the ripping and compressing part.

Or is the information in those guides, at least the first two, hard to understand?

thats why i said you need vlc to break the copyright

make sure you get the same bit version of vlc as your handbrake

if you got handbrake 64 bit get vlc player 64 bit

Yes, you must have the 64-bit version of VLC player, if you have the 64-bit version of HandBrake, as mentioned by iisforiphone and me and the second guide I linked to.

have your tried just to restart the mac, you really shouldn't be getting an error

ok, it seams to be ripping now? when its done, how do i burn it to a DVD? I swear I am not computer illiterate! I am used to a PC at home and a mac at work for art reasons.

are your trying to rip the dvd (convert the video file to mkv m4v)?


if your trying to make an exact copy of a dvd use Burn
