dvd skips when backing up with mripper and toast?

ive been having some trouble while buring dvds with mac the ripper and toast...its works great except for being sort of skippy...anyone else encouter this?
and what are the best settings to use when copying with mac the ripper...i just use the default not sure if thats best or not..?
