I have a collection of movies on back-up dvds that i would like to put onto my HDD as avi files.

These are back-up dvds on 4.7GB without any encryption on it.

Can anyone recommend a decent/easy/quick software so that i can burn these into avi files of 1.4GB so that i would have them on my HDD and also be able to play from my PS3 ?

I just want it to be simple files without menus/subtitles etc.

Probably got about 200 DVD's.

Look into Handbreak. I don't think it can output to an AVI file, it mostly does h264 output.

I need it in a format that plays on mac mini, ps3, windows laptop, android phone & ipad.

Not too bothered on the format as long as it plays and in decent enough quality.

Any idea how long it takes to convert 1 4.7GB using mac mini ?

I got a feeling 200 DVD might take me years !!

A mv4/mp4 video file should playback on all of those machines. What model Mini do you have? It should take less than 2 hours per movie.

mac mini i5 2.3 with 8gb ram.

2hr per movie seems long !

2 hours per movie is on a 2007 era 2.0Ghz Core2Duo. Your machine will take much less time.
