Traveling The World
This is from a message I posted in the Applications board, but no good reply has come through answering:

Sorry if this problem has been discussed before.

I've had VLC Media Player on my Mac for some time, but have been using it more and more in the last few weeks as I’m restarting university.

Anyway...
Some DVDs won't load and it doesn't give an error message or anything. So far I’ve found that Lost Season 1 & The Lake House won't load (haven't tried season 2 yet, still watching Supernatural).

I know how to load DVDs on it, so that's not the problem. But what could be causing it? Are some DVDs restricted so they can only play on multiregion players ect?

Thanks to anyone how can shed some light on this issue.
Just tried to use Handbrake and Handbrake Instant, and the same thing has happened, it scans for the titles and then nothing. - that was with The Lake House.

I think i may have answered my own question about the DVDs having something on them that doesn't allow ripping or playing in media players.

CAn anyone suggest another program for putting movies onto the iPod?
Has anyone else had the same problem with Lost?

Thanks for any suggestions

Can anyone suggest another program for Watching R1 DVDs on a R2 PowerBook, if VLC Player doesn't work with some of them?

And a program for putting DVDs into iTunes - again, apart from HandBrake which doesn't work with Lost, Desperate Housewives, Supernatural or The Lake House.

Or..
Just a solution to the problem.;)

Hmm, not sure I follow exactly what you're asking here. If it's about R1 DVDs playing on a Powerbook with the DVD drive set to R2 then certain PB models have DVD drives that don't work with MacTheRipper, Handbrake etc. for anything other than the region code that you set for the drive. I know the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-825 is one of them. I think if you check the MacTheRipper site http://www.ripdifferent.com/phpbb2/viewforum.php?f=26 you'll find this discussed in there somewhere.

If your question is not about R1 discs on a R2 DVD drive, then I've misunderstood. Try asking again.

edit: made url more specific
