I cannot figure this out.
I am trying to share a DVD drive over my LAN.
I have DVD sharing turned on, without notification, on both an iMac and a MBP on the same LAN.
The iMac can see the MBP's drive and lists it in devices, per normal.
The MBP does NOT see the iMac's drive, and nothing shows in devices. However, if I do a Get Info on the iMac, set the DVD as a shared "folder," then the MBP sees the iMac's DVD as a folder just as it would an external drive.
I tried it with another Mac, and got the same problem: DVD drive doesn't show as device, but you have to manually share it as a folder and then it does show up. I suppose this is the case because it's really showing the mounted volume, NOT the DVD device itself.
So what's the solution? How do I get other machines to see the iMac's DVD drive as a device? I've restarted, turned sharing on and off, etc. All are running 10.9.4.
