DVI help pls

Hi guys, I have been using my macbook pro to watch movies, dvds etc on my tv using a dvi to hdmi cable. This has recently stopped working and by a process of elimination found out it was the mac. Its seems to be recognising that it is attached to soemthing but does not give an output.

Is there anything I can do that might help or does this mean a visit to the apple shop? If so anyone know what kinda of price I am looking at to get somethign like that fixed?
