This is not a lazy post on my part, I've been struggling with this for some time and have almost admitted defeat :)

I'm looking for an external monitor that can tick these boxes:

[ ] can display 1280x720 natively (no scaling)
[ ] DVI input
[ ] available in UK

So, essentially, a 16:9 monitor that is confirmed working at 1280x720. Full HD would be nice, but is not essential.

The closest I've found is a cheap emachines model (#E17T4W), but that only does VGA and I don't want to buy an additional dongle/converter.

Your suggestions are warmly appreciated. Thanks!

google: 1280 720 lcd dvi

example
RCA LCDX2722W 27

There seems to be a lot more that are VGA instead of DVI.
You are looking for a movie / game display?

I'm looking for something I can do HD screencasting with - and the googling I was doing was giving me all kinds of stuff that wasn't quite right, even with some advanced search terms. The VGA was also the kicker, unfortunately - you're exactly right.

You shouldn't have any problem satisfying your need. Just use an LCD HDTV capable of 720p. DVI can convert to HDMI using a $5 cable if there's no DVI port. They're both digital so there's no loss in quality. Your options range from 40" ~$1000 I'd wager you're doing DV work?

Good luck.

I was hoping to pick up something for less than 1000USD/500GBP if possible, though the idea of a 40" monitor on my desk does make me smirk :)

Thanks for the tips, though.

Many LCD TV's which are capable of 720p are often a different native resolution. I can't remember the last time I saw an LCD TV which had a 1280x720 native res.

might be easier to find a 1280x1024 native monitor, then the video will play pixel for pixel, just with dead space above and below. so could be native enough or not depending what the need is.

Pretty much the best possible solution. Even the supposed 720p LCD TVs are really something like 1366x768
