So im planning to buy the 2011 MBP 13' and will be hooking it up to a 23' 1080p monitor. Im deciding to either use a dvi or hdmi adapter to plug into my monitor but don't know which. VGA is outdated and out of the question.... All i know is the difference between dvi and hdmi is hdmi also can carry sound but i will be hooking up speakers anyways. Finally, the hdmi adapter isnt made by apple while DVI is.

If you're using speakers through the headphone jack, you don't need the sound output via the Mini-Display port. Therefore, you can just get DVI. Using an HDMI adapter, however, is not going to affect anything. Both DVI and HDMI will have the same video quality.

While a 3rd party HDMI adapter will be cheaper, if you prefer to get the authorized Apple device, just get the DVI adapter from Apple because you won't need the sound.

If you use a MiniDisplay to HDMI adapter + an HDMI cable + an HDTV and play an HD video on your MBP, are you seeing true HD on the TV or no?
