dvi to TV sleep issue

i got the dvi to composite video adapter so i could hook my macbook up to my tv, close the lid, and use the remote from across the room.

however, when i close the lid, it sleeps. ok, wake it up with the remote. but it only stays awake for a few seconds, anyone have an idea why this happens?
