So i did some research and found that you can hook your mac directly into the back of your Digital Cable box (firewire) and using the apple developer firewire kit http://developer.apple.com/sdk/#FireWireX or iRecord http://www.ammesset.com/software/irecord/index.html you can record what is on your cable box.

Its pretty awesome being able to get it on your mac like that, but it kinda sucks cause you can only record what you're watching, the programs have to be running (in the front) and you can only record one thing at a time.

This could end up being very useful, but I think right now unless you have a second cable box, and a second mac devoted to this (mini :) ) and none of your programs are on at the same time, its not all that useful other than for recording some things to take with you.

Its pretty cool though..... check it out..... or do you have any suggestions on other programs that are better or other ways to do this?

I think what would be great, is if you could drag and drop the programs that my cable box dvr records and just put them on my mac. that would be awesome.

Well i havent really used this thing at all.... but now I wish I could figure out how to get the shows on my DVR over to my iBook.

I was on the news today, and wanted to send it to people.

I checked out the AVS forums, but they didnt seem to help really.
