I'm heading to college in the fall with a macbook. I'll be in a triple room in the dorms, so I want good headphones. Hopefully ones that can isolate noise, too. I'll be listening to music with them, in genres of rock, folk, electronica and hiphop.

I like earbuds because of the transportability and durability (I've broken four full-size headphones), although this limits choices. Your thoughts?

Which price range? The Etymotic range are good for high end and Sony MX71's are good in the low range. The Sennheiser MX500 are really cheap and also awesome.

you can get noise canceling headphones, theyre full size but fold down to minimal pocket size almost.
porn will sound better, and dont pretend you want these for any other reason.:)

I have some wireless headphones that have been going on strong for over two years. They are very nice. I think Bose makes awesome headphones, They are expencive but their good. QC2 headphones might be worth checking out.

For an inexpensive pair of earbud headphones that sound great I would go with the Sennheiser MX-500. They are less than $20 on amazon.com. I bought these to replace the the ear buds that came with my 3G ipod after I broke the plug at the gym.

I have been a big fan of Sennheiser for years. I used their headphones when i worked in radio back in the late 80's & early 90's.

My BIL who still works in TV production says the Sennheiser HD-202 headphones (less than $25 on amazon) are really good as well.

Neither one of these are noise cancelling but they both have good sound quality at a good price IMHO....
