Hello all,
I have an early '08 MBP (pre-unibody). It has worked flawlessly its entire life. However, for the past two weeks my trackpad just stops responding - my mouse will not move. Sometimes it comes back after 20 minutes or so, and a restart of the system has fixed it every time so far.
Initially, I thought I had water/debris/skin oil or something on it, but after a thorough cleaning and by paying much more attention lately, I've eliminated this potential source. I also tried "resetting" it by holding my hand over it, but I have "tap to click" enabled and this feature stops working as well during this time. The keyboard has been unaffected.
I have tried resetting the PRAM/NVRAM, but it has malfunctioned twice after two separate resets.
I also suspected the battery may be at fault (bulging, etc.), but after removing the battery and laying it flat on a table, there are no visible signs of battery damage.
This MBP has served me faithfully for a long time, and I'd really rather not purchase a new computer right now. If this is an identified problem that either I or an Apple Store could rectify, I'd love to just have it repaired.
Thoughts/comments/questions are appreciated!
Best,
Reg
