Early 2006 iMac RAM to 3gb?

I heard that you can upgrade the Early 2006 iMac Intel Core Duo (not Core Duo 2) RAM to 3GB. Is this true or does it only pertain to the Late 2006 iMacs? And if so, which slot would take the 2GB stick only? (that is, left or right slot, if you were looking at it laid down with the monitor facing down).

The Core Duo models can only accept up to 2GB.
