Early 2008 DVD Burner & Booktype

I want to make a backup of my Navigation DVD (Honda built by Alpine) and wondered if anyone knows whether the early 2008 MacPros supports changing the booktype of the DVD from DVD+-R to DVD-ROM? The only way to make a successful backup that I can tell is burning to a DL DVD using booktype DVD ROM.
